Google just announced a new tool for finding polling locations, absentee ballots and the various deadlines along the way.

“We developed the site in the hope that it will increase voter participation. We were helped by a number of partners, including many state and local election officials, the League of Women Voters, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and others involved in the Voting Information Project.”

I am in charge of making accurate polling location information happen for voteforchange.com and I have to say they should be directing people to http://www.voteforchange.com

Several states haven’t finished redistricting and this information will be in flux over the next week to a large degree. Additionally I would wager that google is using nearest neighbor, and not zip+4 which has a much lower accuracy rate, but higher coverage, and is a smart choice given the data available to them, but at voteforchange.com we update our polling location information every few hours, and guarantee it is accurate as we get the information first. If your polling information changes we contact you via email to let you know. On the whole I would recommend using http://www.voteforchange.com over the google api.
